Day 8 - Inverness

We got up early this morning to pack up, have breakfast and head to the local bus stop.

The starter buffet

We both decided to have Scottish porridge for our main this morning and forego the eggs and bacon.

We took the bus to Elgin where we transferred to the train to Inverness. Our connection time was short and I had to print off our tickets at the station. By the time I got the tickets printed and ran back up and over the tracks to grab my bag, then drag it up and over the tracks, I had 20 seconds to spare.

Waiting for the bus. It's not raining! Yea!!!!!

This is the inn where we had the lovely dinner last night.

The little town of Craigellachie

Train station at Nairn

The following three pictures are, once again, blurry pics from the train, but it was so beautiful in real life.

The Palace Hotel (where we're staying)

The other view from our window

The river Ness

Headed to town to shop. Uh oh, which way do we go??

The court house

We use this clock tower for a reference point. We can see it from our room. The clock tower is all that is left of the old Inverness jail and now houses the Hall of Names.

The Inverness castle, taken from our room.

The Ness bridge is right outside our hotel.  We decided to go for a little walk after shopping since we had only walked a little over 4 miles today, so we went across the Ness bridge to walk down the other side of the river Ness. Jo Anne commented that we had ridden the train by the North Sea, stayed by the River Spey, walked along the river Fiďdich, and now along the river Ness.

The Palace Hotel as seen from across the river.

The Inverness cathedral

A sign to Muirtown (for all of us Muirs)

Taking a pic of Jo Anne taking a pic

Amazing views of the river.

We just keep thinking it can't get any more beautiful but it does.

Jo Anne standing on the bridge to Ness island.

We are walking part of the Glen Way, which is one of the walks we thought about doing here in Scotland.

There are great benches made from huge wooden beams all along the river.

Jo Anne posing on one of the great benches. She'll kill me for saying that.

The two chalets on the right needed some tender loving care. We decided they would make great B&Bs right on the river.

The following are signs we have enjoyed along the way.
Humps for 1/2 mile

Give way

And the best one yet. "Elderly people" I tried to get Jo  Anne to stand by it but she wouldn't.

I will end the blog with two videos of water running under the bridge.

Stats for today: 7.89 miles and 19,462 steps.

We have reached the halfway point in our journey and have walked 79.58 miles and 196,600 steps, whew!
